December 24, 2010

Christmas Eve is a magical time for many. Some hold the traditions of attending services, gathering with family and friends, and even opening a gift or two in anticipation of the big day.

For many of us, the holidays are filled with stress, loneliness, disappointment, and heartache. The anticipation born of the commercialism of the time leaves many of us feeling unfulfilled and empty. That’s when David Marsden steps in.

David nurtures us all year round by weaving a tapestry of music that is more fine art than craft. Rightfully called the “master of free-form broadcasting,” he lets the music take us on a journey that brings us far away from the drudgery of real life, and allows us to enter a happy place deep within ourselves.

On Christmas Eve, the magic really blossoms. Thirty-seven years ago, Marsden himself experienced the feeling of emptiness that engulfs so many. As it reached out and tried to consume him with dread and fear, he fought it back. It was on that one night as he walked alone on cold and snow-swept streets, that a voice told him to do what he does best so that others would feel warm, cared for, and part of a family. This year embodied all that was fabulous from the previous years. It was truly a work of love.

David works hard to ensure that everyone feels a sense of community. And, you need not keep your feelings to yourself. Sistahmar provides a chat room where you can come and discuss what’s on your mind, talk to others who feel much like you, and celebrate a worldwide communal Christmas. David provides the music and the heart-warming stories, Happy Pants provides the latest updates on Santa’s whereabouts, as well as firsthand glimpses into his bag of goodies, and the rest of us provide the companionship via Sistahmar’s Marsbar Theatre Chat Room, FaceBook, and email.

It’s never too late to start a tradition. David Marsden can be heard on 94.9 The Rock (who graciously provided 5 hours of commercial-free time to David on Christmas Eve) Saturday and Sunday nights from 7 pm until midnight (ET). He’s currently on a short break and will return on Saturday night, January 8. Consider joining us then. We’ll save you a spot by the fire in the theatre.

I’ve chosen not to publish a complete playlist from this year’s extravaganza, merely list some of the special highlights. You really need to experience the show firsthand. In the meantime go to MarsdenGlobal.com and download the available podcasts that David posts to get a taste of what you’ve been missing. And, we’ll anticipate your visit on the 8th.

December 11, 2010

Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder. We all missed David so much last weekend - and he showed us how much he missed us all by providing a seamless and splendid show. He played two really excellent songs by Fire Diviner. We were treated to a visit in the chat room by the group's singer who explained that "Wither and Die" was a tribute to Martin Streek, among others. What a beautiful, yet gripping tune. "The Way I'm Seeing You" was a barn-burner - shouldn't be a lick of snow left in Ontario after that tune blew through the airwaves.

Join us tomorrow night for a show that will take your mind off of anything that may be troubling you, brought to you by the master of free-form broadcasting. 7 pm until midnight ~ make a promise to yourself to be there.
